Biohacking Conference 2021

Reunited and It Feels So Good

After a year of no events, we at ARX were extremely gratified to be able to return to one of the most fun and interesting trade shows on our calendar!  We reunited with old friends, got to explore some new tech, and enjoyed all the hospitality we’ve come to expect from Dave Asprey and his 7th-Annual Biohacking Conference Team.

A common refrain from the weekend was that it felt like “back to school.”

That same feeling when you haven’t seen your friends all summer, and you finally get back for that first day to reconnect with everyone.

Our first Biohacking Conference was the 2nd one Dave and the team put on in 2014. Over the years we’ve met dozens and dozens of fun, innovative, and unique friends in this space. It was hard being away from everyone for longer than normal. This is a small but very close-knit community of like-minded people, and the Biohacking Conference really is the best opportunity a lot of us have to reconnect and talk shop. So a big highlight of this year’s conference was the ability to spend facetime with those with whom we’d become close over the years.

I’m almost positive they enjoyed reconnecting too

Mr. Pullano Hits The Big Time

Mr. Pullano in Biohacking Conference

One of the distinct pleasures we had this past weekend was that our very own Chief Product Officer Mike Pullano got the opportunity to give a talk during the breakout time.

The title of the talk was, “Stop Resisting Resistance Exercise, It’s Time For Us To Evolve,” and it was an excellent summary of the history of ARX, the current state of the fitness industry, and the integral part we’re playing—and will continue to play—in bringing the field into the 21st century.

The very hopeful thesis was that yes, we do currently have the tools to reverse each of the worst health trends in our population. With the convenience and potency of ARX technology, the epidemics of osteoporosis, diabetes, and sarcopenia can be left in the 20th century where they started.

The Company You Keep

Now, it wouldn’t be the Biohacking Conference without some really cool tech that impressed the ARX team. Obviously we feel very confident that our technology represents a world-class biohack that can improve lives safely, efficiently, effectively, and quantifiably. But this doesn’t mean that we aren’t nerds about a ton of other really cool technologies!

So enjoy the list of tech below that the ARX team found exciting at this year’s Biohacking Conference:

BrainTap Device

BrainTap is a brain wave entrainment device that uses sound and light to shift stressed brains from sympathetic, “fight-or-flight” conditions to deep levels of relaxation, creativity, receptivity, and healing.

You know those deep levels of meditation that take at least thirty to forty-five minutes of standard meditation to induce?

Well, BrainTap puts you there instantly and keeps you there the whole session.

There are parallels to our tech here. BrainTap eliminates the excessive time commitment and guesswork of standard meditation in the same way that ARX eliminates the excessive time commitment and guesswork of using the weight room.

You just get the result—and often a better result than would have been previously possible—far more efficiently, safely, and reliably. And it works for every person every time.

Several members of the ARX went home as new owners of a BrainTap device.

We’ve been big fans of the BioCharger for a long time now, having had it at our Austin Headquarters for almost two years now.

It’s a subtle energy platform that revitalizes the body’s ability to find homeostasis within its environment.

This one-of-a-kind tech provides the benefits realized from pulsed electromagnetic fields, plasma gas technology, monochromatic light therapy, photon therapy, non-invasive (wireless) application, micro-current technology, and more.

Because of its wide-ranging effects, it can be used to enhance energy, focus, recovery, physical performance, sleep, flexibility, and mental health.

With over 700 “recipes” and uses, if the BioCharger doesn’t do it, you don’t need it.

The Vasper

The Vasper

This year was the same Vasper we all know and love: a super cool tech that combines compression, cooling, grounding, and interval training to help the body restore, harmonize, and reach peak vitality.

However, Sebastian and the team have done an awesome job reimagining their gear with a sleek new look that makes their product even more streamlined and modern.

We’ve been big fans for a long time, and it’s great to see the fellas at Vasper doing better than ever.

Man, we love us some SaunaSpace. I’ve had one in my home since 2019, and we have one at our Austin headquarters adjacent to our Morozko Forge cold tub (also highly recommended).

SaunaSpace provides red, infrared, and sauna therapy through the use of full-spectrum incandescent heat bulbs. This is a unique offering in the red-light space, as products will typically utilize LEDs that only represent one, two, or sometimes three different nanometer-lengths of light.

But the SaunaSpace utilizes hundreds of different nanometer-lengths of light, and at a potent power density to ensure maximum photobiomodulatory effect.

They’ve also sourced sustainable, hypoallergenic, and natural materials in a portable design so we can have a worry-free experience. There’s no off-gassing or permanent alterations.

And most impressive, they’re committed to reducing the electromagnetic fields (EMFs) in our environment, both by grounding the ones created by their products and by creating the world’s only zero-EMF sauna, a model called The Faraday, which includes industry-leading shield technology.

Oh, and all their products carry a lifetime warranty.

Super-impressive tech from a super-impressive team.

B-Stong BFR Straps

Workout For Muscle Gain

This particular blood-flow-restriction device caught our attention this year at the show.

If you’re not familiar, blood flow restriction (BFR) training modifies the blood flow to the limb during exercise to make the brain think the muscle is working hard.

This triggers a robust, anabolic hormonal release into the bloodstream. The systemic response affects all working and healing tissue. Increased growth hormone levels promote improved energy levels, increased performance, anti-aging, and bone density.

In the past, such devices have been attached to large terminals, a complicated series of tubes, or other barriers to efficient use.

In contrast, the B-Strong bands are simple, portable, easy to use, easy to inflate/deflate, and come with simple protocols that can be followed by anyone.

Biohacking Conference 2021

ARX’s Chief Product Officer Mike Pullano enjoying the “Happy Hour” protocol at the Hapbee booth last weekend

The Hapbee device represents an innovative take on wearable technology.

It’s not so much a measurement device, and it doesn’t exactly entrain brain waves. Instead, Hapbee uses patented technology that captures the energy of chemical compounds inside your body, then plays their frequencies back to you—giving your body the experience of those chemicals, without actually processing it like normal.

The device has six recipes: Happy, Alert, Focus, Relax, Calm, and Deep Sleep. You put it around your neck or on the crown of your head, and it begins emitting low-energy magnetic waves that simulate the corresponding chemical/hormonal mix inside your body and mind in order to begin producing the desired effects.

Kind of like cutting out the chemical/hormonal middle man for mood regulation. Very cool!

In case you’re not familiar, traditional kava is a drink prepared from the roots of Piper Methysticum—a plant native to islands in the South Pacific—where it is used for its natural relaxing and social enhancing qualities.

Kava also provides a vast array of additional therapeutic effects that have been well documented over generations. And its total lack of side effects is believed to come primarily from its unique chemical properties, which gives it the ability to naturally enhance the activity of the body’s main pleasure chemicals dopamine, serotonin, and GABA.

As you can imagine, not all kava products are created equal. TruKava’s breakthrough product Kavaplex is the world’s first and only full-spectrum, shelf-stable kava oil.

They use a proprietary, lightly-filtered, solvent-free extraction method that uses high pressure at very low temperatures, capturing the root’s full complex of kavalactones and other active constituents.

They also have other kava products that are virtually indistinguishable from traditional kava in terms of their composition and effects and new products on the horizon. They use the most potent, premium kava varieties in all their products that are totally free of all contaminants.

With some kava experience under our belts over the past few years, we were very impressed with what these guys are bringing to the table.

Until Next Time!

Parting is such sweet sorrow. We are already itching for The 8th-Annual Biohacking Conference, which will return to the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills on September 15-18, 2022.

From the great reunions, to the great exhibitors and vendors, this was truly a valuable and worthwhile event for everyone involved.

We’re proud to be a part of this community, and we look forward to helping spread the good word about using new and innovative technology to improve the health and the lives of millions of people world-wide.

See you next year!
